Ichwan Noor was born in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1963. He attended the School of Visual Art at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Yogyakarta and has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad.
As a sculptor, Ichwan indeed mastered the various techniques of making large three-dimensional works. In his studio in Yogyakarta, he very intimately casts different types of metal and fiber-resin and has excellent accuracy in calculating the structure and recognising the various forms of both biomorfis and constructive. With this ability Ichwan is known amongst friends as ‘The Maker’. His nickname is evidenced not only in its contribution to the works of three-dimensional studio clients, but also from his exhibition artworks. He presents various ideas and forms, exploring a variety of shapes with intricate workmanship techniques.
He received an award for best work in “Indonesia Art Motoring”, Motion & Reflection at the National Gallery, Jakarta in 2011 when he exhibited a work of the VW beetle series at the very first time and later received public acclaim for the work“Beetle Sphere” at ART BASEL HONG KONG in 2013.
