Asian Artists in the Spotlight at Prudential Eye Awards 2015

In its second year, the Prudential Eye Awards celebrates the best of Asian contemporary art.

The winners of the Prudential Eye Awards 2015 were announced in a televised ceremony held during Singapore Art Week.

A total of 13 awards were presented. The winners included Donna Ong, Best Installation; Chim↑Pom, Best Digital/Video; Mithu Sen, Best Drawing; Christine Ay Tjoe, Best Painting; Sherman Ong, Best Photography; Meekyoung Shin, Best Sculpture; Gu Wenda, Lifetime Achievement Award for Asian Contemporary Art; FuturePerfect, Best Gallery Supporting Emerging Asian Contemporary Art; Viet Le, Best Writing on Asian Contemporary Art; Asia Art Archive, Best Asian Contemporary Art Institution; and ‘No Country: Contemporary Art for South and Southeast Asia’, Best Exhibition of Asian Contemporary Art.

The winner of the Overall Emerging Artist of the Year was Chim↑Pom from Japan. They received a prize of US$50,000 and a solo exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London. South Korea also won a country award for visual culture.

A partnership between Parallel Contemporary Art and Saatchi Gallery, the Prudential Eye Awards was launched last year by the Global Eye Programme and focuses on emerging Asian Artists.

Accompanying the awards is the Prudential Singapore Eye, an exhibition that showcases a selection of contemporary art pieces by Singaporean artists and some highlights from around the region. It is currently on show in the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands.
